Description
Like Google's own ambitions, the work of a Software Engineer goes way beyond just
Search. Software Engineering Managers have not only the technical expertise to
take on and provide technical leadership to major projects, but also manage a team
of engineers. You not only optimize your own code but make sure engineers are able
to optimize theirs. As a Software Engineering Manager you manage your project
goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. Teams work all
across the company, in areas such as information retrieval, artificial
intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale
system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design; the
list goes on and is growing every day. Operating with scale and speed, our
exceptional software engineers are just getting started -- and as a manager, you
guide the way.
With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple
teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of
large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.
The Child Safety team aims at removing Child Sexual Abuse Imagery (CSAM) online.
Partnering closely with Trust and Safety, the Special Victims Investigation Group,
and other Google teams, we detect and report CSAM to the National Center for
Missing and Exploited Children. Many of these reports lead to rescues every day.
In this role, you will develop cutting-edge technology to combat online abuse and
create solutions with tangible, real-world impact. You will help create a safer
world by preventing abuse and exploitation of children across Google products.
Responsibilities
Manage the design development, and deployment of systems for detecting and
combating CSAM and other forms of child endangerment, including heuristics,
machine learning, data analysis, and metrics-driven technologies.
Collaborate cross-functionally, build strong relationships with engineers and
product managers across Google to integrate abuse-fighting safeguards into Google
products.
Prioritize safety and user trust, balance the need for responsible content
moderation, ensure user privacy and trust, understand the sensitive nature of this
domain.
Support external partners, develop solutions and technologies that support NGOs
and other organizations dedicated to the prevention of child exploitation, working
to extend the reach and effectiveness of these efforts.
Lead a team of Software Engineers focused on this critical mission, providing
mentorship, guidance, and fostering an environment of innovation.
