Are you interested in renewable energy, and would you like to join a large company
within the wind energy sector? Vestas is looking for you.
Siting Solutions is an engineering unit responsible, among other things, for
inputting comprehensive energy resource insights in the project development
activities along the full lifetime of new wind farms from the screening stage
until operations.
For the early stages of projects, this includes identifying and proposing new
project areas, prospecting such locations, defining optimized measurement
campaigns and implementing those to validate project viability.
The department also considers project constraints to optimize layouts and turbine
configurations. Our goal is to meet both technical requirements (including wind
and solar climate conditions, annual energy production, capacity factors,
lifetime, warranty, loading, safety, and contribution margin maximization) and
commercial requirements (such as levelized cost of energy, financeability, and
business development preferences).
Responsibilities:
" Identify and propose areas to launch development of new wind farm projects;
" Visit the selected areas to identify possible project risks;
" Design and fully evaluate measurement campaigns;
" Propose preliminary layouts for the new wind farm projects and assess the
expected energetic performance;
" Support the commercial team in the definition of the optimum wind conditions to
maximize energetic and financial performance of future wind farms;
" Set up and use methodologies, processes and tools to maximize the validation
rates of project ideas into effective viable projects, leveraging on the vast wind
databases and models available within Vestas and external sources;
" Continuously monitor and seek technological evolution in terms of wind flow
modelling, including through liaison with independent third parties/ consultants.
Qualifications:
" Bachelors / Master degree in Engineering, Meteorology, Physics, Geography, or
related disciplines;
" Fluency in Portuguese and English. Spanish is desirable;
" Minimum of 5 years of experience working in wind energy resource assessment,
supporting the business development team on prospecting activities; greenfield
assessments, supporting permitting activities, defining met masts and remote
sensors (LIDAR or SODAR) characteristics, defining temporal and spatial
representativeness of the measurement campaign to reduce uncertainties, layout
design, energy yield, and uncertainty assessments, completing energy and
suitability analysis for industrial-scale wind power plants;
" Similar experience in solar projects is advantageous;
" Understanding of wind turbine loads analysis is valued.
Competencies:
" Experience with wind resource assessment and modelling tools, using Vortex,
WAsP, WindPro, OpenWind, CFD, or Mesoscale modeling for wind power applications;
" High proficiency in wind flow modelling;
" Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills;
" High strategic thinking and value creation;
" High organizational skills and good understanding of Project Management
practices
" Ability to work in a time-sensitive setting and prioritize in a progressive /
deadline-oriented environment;
" Should be a highly motivated person and be able to work with little supervision;
" Ability to operate within a team environment;
" Knowledge on PVSyst or SolarGIS for solar power plants, and GIS systems are
beneficial;
" Travel availability.
