OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Under the authority and overall supervision of the Director of BRZ Office, and the immediate supervision of the Programme Officer responsible for the coordination of the Directors Office, and following the Table of Delegated Authority and Accountability, the incumbent will provide support in the analysis, research and counsel on legal matters and policy. He/she will anticipate and guard against legal risks facing BRZ Office and provide assistance in the development and proposal of policy and positions on various legal and project issues. The incumbent will verify the commitment of the Organization to agreements and contracts signed with national and private partners and shall contribute to the strengthening of the knowledge and compliance of UNESCOs rules and regulations by BRZ Offices personnel, as well as its understanding by national partners. To this end, the incumbent shall:
Long Description
Assist DIR/BRZ and senior management in the area of international cooperation,
analyzing project proposals to ensure their compliance with UNESCOs standards and
Brazils legal framework, and keeping contact with both administrative officers of
the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) and UNESCO project officers, as well as
other cooperation partners;
Assist DIR/BRZ and AO/BRZ in the review and/or interpretation of contractual
documents to be signed by the BRZ Office;
Assist BRZ Programme Coordinators and Project Officers in the due diligence
process of private sector partners;
Prepare opinions on various subjects, especially on legal matters, including those
related to UNESCOs rules and regulations, privileges and immunities and
international cooperation;
Convene meetings relevant for improved functioning of the Office including the
coordination of the CRP (Committee for the Revision of Projects);
Long Description
Ensure the protection and adequacy of the use of UNESCO logo and emblems;
Undertake extensive legal research and analysis for the preparation of legal
studies, reports, responses, correspondences and opinions;
Prepare and draft correspondences in general;
Keep the list of files organized and up to date, including in the intranet;
Search office files and records relating to a variety of topics for information
and references;
File correspondence, documents and other material in accordance with a code
already assigned on the basis of an established classification system and maintain
files in good order;
Perform other duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Advanced university degree (Masters or Post Graduation) in Law.
Work Experience
Minimum of six years of previous experience in legal functions and/or
international cooperation projects.
Experience in legal analysis, research and drafting papers or reports on legal
matters at the national or international level is required.
Languages
The position requires proficiency in Portuguese and English.
Skills and Competencies

Excellent oral and written presentation skills, pro-active, initiative and
discretion.
Computer literacy and knowledge of Word, Excel and Power Point.

Specialized training or courses in the fields related to this position.
Work Experience
Experience in international organization as well as knowledge of UNESCO or UN will
be an asset.
Languages
Working knowledge of another UN language, especially Spanish or French will be an
asset.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This assignment is of full-time nature (Monday to Thursday:
8h30 to 12h30 / 14h to 18h; Friday:
8h30 to 14h).
For this position, the monthly remuneration, which will be paid in local currency,
will be BRL 13.877,07.
The initial contract is intended for the year 2024 and shall be linked to a
project-funding source, which is expected to be renewed. Any contract renewal
shall be dependent upon budgetary availability and satisfactory services.
