Visit our website to learn more!Who will you be working with?You will work as a part of a dynamic team to develop control strategy requirements and concepts, design and implement solutions, perform control system calibration and validation, and support issue resolution for both New Technology and New Product Introduction initiatives.How will you make a difference? As a member of the Controls engineering, you will be responsible for supporting control system enhancements and new feature development for Wabtecs family of diesel electric, dual fuel, and hybrid diesel-battery locomotives, as well as marine and stationary engine systems.What do we want to know about you? Qualifications/RequirementsBachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace EngineeringMinimum of 3 years project experience in engine/powertrain systems, electrical systems/controls modeling, and/or control systems engineeringSkilled in designing, using and analyzing Visio and SIMULINK model diagramsAbility to support on-site locomotive testing & validationAbility and willingness to travel as requiredDesired CharacteristicsMasters degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Aerospace EngineeringProficient in control theory and/or control methods including system identification, logic and state machines, closed loop control systems, and discrete time control system implementationexperience with engine or vehicle powertrain/drivetrain equipment, systems, control, or diagnosticsexperience with electric vehicle/hybrid power applications, design, and testingDetailed knowledge of internal combustion engines with respect to engine performance, combustion, emissions control, regulatory complianceDetailed knowledge of rotating electric machines, power electronics, propulsion battery technologyExperience with DOORS or similar requirements definition methods/tools and control model auto-coding for high bandwidth, closed-loop real-time controlExperience with system-level validation testingStrong teamwork and communication skills, oral and writtenStrong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systemsWhat will your typical day look like? The Locomotive NPI Controls team owns the control architecture and embedded software requirement specification for the engine and electronic drivetrain control system and leads the implementation of the application control logic, diagnostics, and protections to maximize performance, reliability, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance. You will set, communicate, and execute objectives for self and others, and be empowered to impact business outcomes.Essential responsibilities include:Developing and enhancing engine and electric drivetrain control system concepts for new technology applications as part of new product introductionsDefining engine and electric drivetrain control feature/diagnostics requirements and documentationPrototyping new control applications concepts/enhancements through modeling and simulationDeveloping MATLAB scripts and SIMULINK modelsDeveloping feature test procedures to ensure performance meets requirementsPerforming and documenting failure modes analysis (DFMEA)Supporting feature calibration and validation efforts in the engine test cell, integrated hardware simulator testing, locomotive system testing, customer acceptance and field in-service monitoringSupporting design and documentation updates for safety and regulatory compliance assuranceSupporting commercial requisition and reliability growth through product and platform expansionCollaborating with senior engine, traction & auxiliary control engineers, systems and subsystem engineering, program management, commercial teams, simulation, software, and hardware teams in the application of advanced controls techniques/methods/tools to meet challenging requirementsProviding technical guidance to team members and engaging a broad range of existing product and technical experts to build design, tools, process, and domain expertiseOur Commitment to Embrace Diversity: Wabtec is a global company that invests not just in our products, but also our people by embracing diversity and inclusion.
