The Associate Counsel operates within broad guidelines established by the Senior Vice President & General Counsel, and the Vice President & Deputy General Counsel; the incumbent is responsible for providing legal expertise and assistance to the organization.What You Will Do: Participates in the development and interpretation of ABS policies. May provide direction and instruction to support staff, review their progress and make recommendations concerning the evaluation of their work.  At the direction of the Senior Vice President & General Counsel, the Vice President & Deputy General Counsel, and the Associate General Counsel, conducts legal projects and research Provides counsel and advice on a variety of legal matters, including employment and labor, intellectual property, data privacy, insurance, litigation, and bankruptcy matters. Drafts, reviews, and negotiates contracts and other legal documents. Authors correspondence, legal memoranda, and reports Under supervision, works with outside legal counsel in various legal matters. Anticipate and identify legal issues and proactively develop effective and practical legal strategies and solutions. What You Will Need:Education and Experience or in Jurisprudence Typically requires - years of experience Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Legal interest in the marine industry. The ability to negotiate detailed, sensitive legal issues with clients and other interested parties. The human relations skills necessary to organize and manage the activities of support staff. Ability to obtain a working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management System (Applicable to internal candidates only.) Reporting Relationships:The incumbent reports to the Manager, Director, or Executive level position. This position does not have direct reports.
